Hello. My name is Jon David Rosten. Most people call me Jon. Some call me Jack.
I was born in Ishpeming, MI, a small, picturesque city situated nicely in the center of Michigan's Upper Peninsula (residents of which are called Yoopers). Surrounded by lakes and forests, it was an idyllic place to grow up, except for those frequent times when the temperature dove below zero.
After my Yooper childhood, I earned my B.S. in Television Production and fled the snow and moved to Southern California, where I have lived most of my adult life. I've spent my time working in the entertainment industry (a few years at The Outdoor Channel & Fox Sports, and many years at Warner Bros.), writing various forms of fiction (my love), and learning (an MBA from Cal State Northridge, and an MFA in Creative Writing from National University).
My love for writing started with screenplays. I wrote one which won the Grand Prize of the Writemovies.com Int'l Screenwriting Competition (top script of 1,000 entries). I later directed that feature ("Valley of Angels" starring Danny Trejo) which won the Grand Prize in the NY Int'l Independent Film & Video Festival. I wish I had about twice the time and five times the budget to do that film right, but for a no-budget feature I guess it turned out okay.
"The Wicked Trees" started out as my MFA Thesis Novel. I've had an incredibly fun time writing it, and am excited to release it to the world.
I plan on getting back to making more films at some point. However, I'm absolutely loving literary fiction at the moment and am looking forward to spending much of the second half of my life writing more novels. I've got more ideas than time.
Thanks for visiting...
